How Currency Conversion Works

converted = amount × rate(from → to)

The rate tells you how many units of the target currency you get for one unit of the source currency. This converter uses the European Central Bank reference rates, the same source banks and news outlets quote. Real bank rates include a spread on top of this reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do currency conversion rates work?

An exchange rate is the price of one currency expressed in another. Rates float constantly based on supply and demand in global currency markets, and are published daily by central banks and financial data providers. This converter fetches live rates where available and falls back to a built-in reference table.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Live rates are fetched from the Frankfurter API (frankfurter.app), which publishes the European Central Bank reference rates — updated every business day. If the live fetch is unavailable, the converter uses a built-in approximate rate table so it always works.

Why is the rate my bank gives me different?

Banks and exchange services add a margin (spread) on top of the interbank rate, and may charge fees. The rate shown here is the reference interbank rate; your actual rate will typically be a few percent less favorable.

How often do exchange rates change?

Rates move continuously during trading hours and are re-published daily. The ECB reference rate is set once per business day; this converter reflects that daily value. For large transfers, check the live rate at the moment of the transaction.
